January marks a fresh start, new goals, and renewed hope for the animals in our care. As we step into a new year, we want to take a moment to thank youāour incredible volunteers and fostersāwhose compassion and commitment continue to save lives every single day.
This monthās newsletter highlights the impact you made in December, introduces pets in need of foster or adoption, shares an inspiring success story, and outlines ways you can get involved as we kick off the year strong. Together, weāre setting the tone for another year of lifesaving work at FWACC.

Volunteer Spotlight: Kellei Mayes
Kellei Mayes has been a dedicated member of the FWACC community since 2021, and sheās a familiar face at Silcox Shelter, events, and transport days. In December, Kellei truly did it allāassisting with Outbound, Urgent Pet Advocacy, Dog Walking, and serving as a Transport Assistant.
She volunteered an incredible 49 hours in December and has fostered 32 animals, providing lifesaving care and compassion every step of the way. Kelleiās reliability, versatility, and heart for animals make her an invaluable part of our team.
Thank you, Kellei, for everything you do!
Pet Spotlight: Ruckus, Buford, & Mika
Meet Ruckus, Buford, and Mikaāthree incredible dogs who are more than ready for a break from the shelter environment and a chance to decompress in a foster home.
Each of these dogs has their own unique personality, strengths, and needs, but they all share one thing in common: they would thrive with the comfort, routine, and love of a home setting. A short foster stay can make a huge differenceāhelping them relax, show their true selves, and increase their chances of adoption or rescue placement.

Happy Tail: Harperās Story
New year, new happy endings!
When Harper first arrived in October of 2024, her legs were in bad shape. She struggled to move comfortably, but her spirit never wavered. Thatās when our wonderful foster, Katie Tyrell, stepped in to give her the care and patience she needed.
Katie stayed by Harperās side through surgery and recovery, helping her rebuild her strength one step at a time. Just as Harper was starting to feel like herself again, another challenge appeared ā she tested positive for heartworms. But Katie didnāt give up on her. She continued to foster Harper through every round of treatment and every small victory along the way.
Now, more than a year later, Harperās story has come full circle. She left Texas on 12/3/25 and thanks to Katieās dedication and love, Harper is healthy, happy, and finally in her forever home in Massachusetts.
Stories like this remind us why we do this workāand whatās possible when a community comes together for animals in need.
