Work alongside our skilled teams to make an even greater impact. Some roles offer hands-on experience with behavior, training, or medical care and include additional training, while others provide essential support to our Outbound and Transport programs. Every position in this group plays a key part in helping our animals move forward on their journey home.

Transport Assistant

Every journey begins with a helping hand. As a Transport Assistant, you’ll support the behind-the-scenes process that moves animals from Fort Worth to rescue partners across the country. Over three days, you’ll help prepare dogs and cats for their life-changing trips — walking, cleaning, and assisting staff to ensure pets travel safely and comfortably.

Your work helps animals take the final step out of the shelter and toward safety, love, and forever homes. Every task — from kennel prep to crate loading — contributes to a lifesaving mission and gives pets a second chance beyond city limits.

Outbound Assistant

Be a vital part of the team that moves animals forward. Outbound Assistants support foster, rescue, transport, and adoption efforts by helping prepare supplies, pull animals for transport, and assist with daily operations. Your organization and attention to detail help pets transition smoothly out of the shelter.

By streamlining the Outbound Team’s work, you directly impact placement speed and success. Every kit you assemble, photo you take, or animal you prep brings a pet closer to a loving home and supports lifesaving outcomes for the most at-risk animals.

Urgent Pet Advocate

Be the voice for our most at-risk shelter pets. Urgent Pet Advocates spotlight animals who need immediate attention, providing fresh photos, behavior updates, and extra socialization to increase their chances of adoption or rescue.

Your efforts help bring these pets into the spotlight, support staff in prioritizing care, and directly save lives. By documenting behavior and highlighting personalities, you ensure that vulnerable animals don’t get overlooked and have the best shot at finding a home.

Life-Skills Enrichment Assistant

Go beyond basic care and help pets learn real-world skills. Life-Skills Enrichment Assistants work hands-on with dogs or cats to build confidence, calmness, and polite behaviors that prepare them for life in a home environment.

Through structured enrichment and positive reinforcement, you help reduce anxiety, improve adoptable behavior, and set pets up for long-term success. Your guidance can be the difference between a stressful shelter stay and a smooth transition to a loving family.

Behavior Assessment Assistant

Help give every dog a voice. Behavior Assessment Assistants work with staff to evaluate dogs’ reactions, sociability, energy, and coping skills, gathering crucial information that informs safe placement, enrichment, and adoption decisions.

Your observations ensure that dogs are matched with the right homes and environments, improving adoption success and reducing returns. By documenting behavior accurately, you help staff understand each dog’s personality and set them up for a brighter future.

Your attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols help ensure successful procedures and the well-being of every animal. This role provides valuable hands-on experience in veterinary medicine while directly supporting lifesaving care in the shelter.
