Finding a Foster Match: Animals Currently in Need

Edited

Welcome to our Foster Program — we’re so glad you’re here! As a foster, you’re playing a vital role in helping the animals of Fort Worth Animal Care & Control get one step closer to their forever homes. Whether it’s giving a pet a safe place to rest before their next big journey, helping a dog recover from a minor illness, or simply providing a much-needed break from the shelter, your support makes a lasting difference.

Below, you’ll find several categories of animals currently in need of foster care. Each link will take you directly to our website, where you can view available pets, learn more about them, and find the perfect match for your home and lifestyle.

🐕 2026 Focus Breeds

As we move into 2026, we’re placing a special focus on helping our high-intake breeds — these dogs often spend the longest time in shelter care and benefit greatly from time in foster homes. If you have room in your home and heart, please consider one of these pups:

🚨 Urgent Animals

These are pets identified as Urgent for various reasons — some may be recovering from minor medical needs (like a URI), others may simply have been with us for a long time (Urgent: Capacity), or they might be showing signs of stress from the shelter environment and need a break to reset.

Please note: not every animal on the Urgent list is eligible for foster placement, but many are! If you’re unsure, don’t hesitate to reach out — we’re here to help you find the right fit.

🐾 Animals Tagged for Upcoming Transport

Some of our shelter pets have already been accepted into rescue or transport programs and just need a short-term foster before departure. These animals typically stay a few days to a few weeks while awaiting their travel dates.
