Easter Feature: A Note from the Easter Bunny
“I’m the Easter Bunny, and let me tell you—fostering dogs is almost as magical as delivering eggs, except they wag more and shed on my fur. When humans take in these bouncy little fluffballs, they’re giving them a warm burrow and helping them hop closer to their forever homes. This Easter, I highly recommend adding extra belly rubs and squeaky toys to your traditions—trust me, it’s better than carrots!”

🏆 Congratulations to: Carter!

Carter enjoyed a fun sleepover, giving him a much-needed break from the shelter to recharge and soak up snuggles. He’s been struggling in the shelter environment, so these short stays are incredibly beneficial in helping him relax and remember life outside the kennel.

Even if you can’t commit to long-term fostering, a sleepover is a great way to get to know a pet, capture adorable photos, and make a meaningful difference.

Educational Corner: Why Fostering Neonates Matters
Neonates—newborn puppies and kittens—are incredibly fragile and require intensive, around-the-clock care. Their immune systems are still developing, making them especially vulnerable without proper support.

They rely on fosters for:

  • Frequent feedings and proper nutrition

  • Warm, safe environments

  • Constant monitoring and individualized care

Without this level of attention, neonates can quickly decline. Foster homes provide the critical support they need to survive and grow.

Why it matters:

  • Stronger immune systems and healthier development

  • Prevention of life-threatening complications

  • Better socialization and adoption outcomes

Fostering neonates may seem intimidating, but we’re here to support you every step of the way!

Foster highlights

There is an ongoing need for fosters willing to open their homes to dogs of all sizes. These pets are simply looking for a safe, cozy place to rest while they wait for their forever families. Even short-term fostering provides comfort, stability, and a second chance

Pups on the Go!

Our transport program is basically a one-way ticket to happily ever after! 🐾✨

Pups who are tagged for transport get the incredible chance to head up North, where their future families are already waiting to meet them. With Texas facing such a large dog population, it can be tough to keep up—but that’s where this life-changing program comes in! By sending these deserving pups to areas with more space and adopters, we’re giving them the fresh start they’ve been dreaming of.

And let’s be honest… not only do they get a second chance, but they also get to enjoy some pretty amazing new scenery along the way! 🍁🏔️

Want to be part of the journey? Help us keep the magic going by picking up a transport pup today—you might just be the reason their story has a happy ending 💛

Did you know that there is something called Kit-Napping?

When kittens are first born, they rely on their mothers for absolutely everything – they can’t regulate their temperature, eat, walk, see or eliminate waste without mom’s help! Mother cats stay as close as they can to their babies when they are first born, but mom still has to eat in order to produce milk for them. She may have to leave for a few hours to hunt for food. That’s why we encourage everyone to leave kittens be if you discover them without their mother. The mother cat is likely nearby, and while your intentions for taking the kittens to a shelter might be good, it actually reduces their chances of survival. Humans just can’t do what momma cats do – so let mom do her job!

Of course, if kittens are found in a dangerous area or appear to be sick or injured then intervention is recommended but Momma is typically out gathering food so don't be so quick to kit-nap these little ones!

If you are ever unsure, don't hesitate to reach out for guidance. We are always happy to help!

🐾 That’s a Wrap!
Thank you for everything you do to support our shelter pets. Whether you’re opening your home for a SlumberPawty, taking a pup out for the day, or simply helping spread the word—you are making a direct impact on their journey to a forever home.

💡 Foster Tip of the Week
Even a short break from the shelter can make a big difference. A calm environment, a cozy nap, and a little one-on-one time can help dogs decompress and show their true personality.
