PetSmart Animal Spotlight Volunteer – Help Pets Get Noticed and Adopted
Every shelter pet has a personality worth sharing. Some are playful and energetic, others are calm and affectionate, and many simply need the chance for someone to see who they truly are. Animal Spotlight Volunteers help bring those personalities to life by capturing photos, observations, and details that help each pet stand out to potential adopters.
In this role, volunteers help update and strengthen the profiles that adopters rely on when choosing their future companion. By spending time with cats and dogs in playrooms, on walks, or within the adoption center, volunteers capture photos and record helpful behavioral observations that provide a clearer picture of each animal’s temperament and needs.
Animal Spotlight Volunteers work alongside the PetSmart Everyday Adoption Center staff member to identify which pets would benefit from updated photos or profile information. Volunteers may photograph pets during enrichment time, observe how they interact with people, and document useful details such as leash manners, play style, or commands they respond to. These insights help adopters understand what living with that animal may be like.
This opportunity is ideal for volunteers who enjoy observing animal behavior and helping pets be seen in their best light. Volunteers with an eye for photography, storytelling, or detail often excel in this role, as the goal is to capture the small moments that help an animal’s personality shine.
Accurate and engaging profiles play an important role in helping animals get adopted. When potential adopters can see clear photos and read meaningful behavior notes, they are more likely to connect with a pet and feel confident visiting to meet them. The information volunteers provide also helps staff make better placement decisions by giving a fuller picture of each animal’s behavior and preferences.
By helping showcase pets through photos and thoughtful observations, Animal Spotlight Volunteers help animals stand out, connect with adopters, and move more quickly toward their forever homes.
Before getting started, volunteers must complete Animal Health, Animal Handling, and Animal Behavior training to ensure safe and effective interactions with shelter animals.
