FWACC Fosters,

Each Wednesday, we connect with our foster community to share where support is most needed and what’s coming up. Fostering saves lives, and the time, space, and care you provide make an immediate difference for animals who need a safe place to land.

This week, our biggest need is Foster SlumberPawty’s — giving a shelter pet a 23–48 hour break can truly change their trajectory. Research shows that even a short overnight stay can significantly reduce stress levels in dogs, helping lower cortisol and allowing them to rest more deeply than they can in a kennel environment. Even more incredible? Dogs who participate in short outings or brief foster stays are dramatically more likely to be adopted — in some studies, adoption likelihood increased several times over compared to dogs who remained in the shelter full-time.

Foster Highlight

Meet Astrid!

Astrid is a 3 year old gal who came in to FWACC as a stray on 11/01/2026. She is dog friendly, incredibly sweet and hasn't left the shelter since arriving!

Upcoming Adoption Events

We have several upcoming adoption events that are an important part of the foster journey. Helping your foster pet participate—whether by attending an event or sharing their story—gives them valuable exposure and increases their chances of finding a permanent home. Your insight and advocacy truly make the difference.

We have a special boy at Silcox - Leo A0058870686 - who would love a chance for a few days in foster and to attend one of our adoption events! If you can snag this fella, please email us at FWACCevents@fortworthtexas.gov

Transport Support

Transport saves lives — but transport cannot happen without foster placement.

We currently have dogs scheduled for upcoming transports that must be placed into foster homes prior to departure. These placements are typically short-term and play a critical role in helping animals reach rescue partners out of state.

If you’re able to help with:

  • Pre-transport foster placement

  • Short-term foster (often 1–2 weeks)

  • Supporting dogs preparing for long-distance travel

Thank you for opening your home, your time, and your heart to animals who need it most. Foster homes are one of the most powerful tools we have to save lives, and we are incredibly grateful for each of you.

More updates to come next week — including foster spotlights and urgent needs.
